Machinery was a challenging theme but our members showcased their creative interpretations. The judge, Becky Witt, was looking for technical skill but also images that delivered an impact on the viewer. She looked for good tonal range and cautioned about overblown areas and hot spots that draw attention away from the subject. One suggestion was to use vignetting to hide issues along the edges. Pay attention to cropping, make sure there is enough space in the direction of implied motion. If there is a leading line, it should lead to something of interest.
