How to be a Better Nature Photographer – and a debate on AI (10/10/24)

RPS member Sharon Edwards asked ChatGPT multiple questions about nature photography.  The more detailed and specific the question, the more thorough the answer.  But it led into a rabbit hole of how AI is part of the photographic experience.  We may not think of it but cameras and cell phones already use AI, for example face detection.  The use of AI in software editing programs is more obvious as techniques such as spot correction have evolved into replacement of an entire background with just a simple click. But how far is too far?  It's now possible to generate a realistic looking "photograph" by describing the image you want to software such as DALL-E.  Close examination of such images often reveals issues but we know the technology will only improve.  It's something for all photographers and camera clubs to debate and develop guidelines around.
